Martin’s Funerals originated in the late 1980’s and is one of the three largest Funeral Service Providers in the country. At Martin’s Funerals Maitland (MFM), we pride ourselves in personal client service, attending to the needs of the bereaved in a distinguishing way.
The owners of MFM are De Wet van Rooyen, former CAPAB baritone and owner of Old Age Homes; and Mariette Maartens, former Psychiatric Social Worker and counsellor. Mariette's passion is people. She manages the business in her own unique way, counselling where there is a need for it, giving much needed information and options, addressing emotional needs and resolving uncertainties or anxieties in a professional manner. Funerals and cremations are experienced as quite discomforting by most. Relief is found in the compassionate way in how one assists the bereaved rather than what is done.
Mariette Maartens
Mariette’s involvement as Social Worker in prisons; psychiatric hospitals and the SA National Defence Force (1 Military Hospital) and as Life Line counsellor prepared her well for the task of funeral home director and caregiver. Her personal approach - attention to detail, compassion and commitment to the bereaved families- has become well known to the residents in different parts of Cape Town and the West Coast.
Since the opening of MFM in July 2004, her quality support to those in need has become sought after especially in the Old Age Home and Church environments. Assistance is merely one phone call away. Personal visits at home ensures less tension and avoids strain which is often enhanced by visiting a funeral parlour. The typical set-up of a funeral home is daunting at the best of times, and having being schooled in environments of emotional turmoil, Mariette understands the importance of congruence, honesty and integrity.
